Angelynne Hinson, soprano has performed on choral, liturgical and recital programs throughout northern New England. As a member of the critically acclaimed vocal duo, Sirens' Song, she has appeared on numerous regional concert series and festival programs including a full-length recital at The Music Hall, Portsmouth. She made her operatic debut in the title role of Carlisle Floyd's Susannah at the Mill Pond Center for the Arts, with Phyllis Curtin in attendance. Singing with the Cantata Singers of Boston since 1998, she has performed much of the standard choral repertoire and appeared in the acclaimed semi-staged performance of The Rake’s Progress and was a soloist in the 2004 presentation of Scenes from Goethe’s "Faust". She is a regularly featured soloist on the Cantata Singers Chamber Series and performed as Rowan in their production of Benjamin Britten’s opera, The Little Sweep,. She appeared as featured soloist for the centenary celebration of the Little Harbor Chapel in Portsmouth and is now the weekly summer soloist. After a rigorous audition process, Angelynne was selected from 15 finalists as one of three official substitute soloists for the First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston, the world headquarters of this denomination. She is a two-time winner of the New Hampshire National Association of Teachers of Singing Award (Professional Division) and NH winner of the NATS Singing Artist Award.
An avid scholar of the history of the American Musical Theatre, Angelynne has written and performed in revues featuring the music of George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim. She appeared in Way Beyond the Blue, an original cabaret combining spoken word and lesser known works of the American musical repertory. Active as well on the dramatic stage, Angelynne played the role of Susannah Cibber in the New England premiere of the off-Broadway play, Joyful Noise. Recent singing/acting engagements include an original Cole Porter revue at the Players' Ring, and A Floral Concert, a historical re-enactment in celebration of Thomas P. Moses (Portsmouth). She has performed leading music theatre roles in regional theatres such as Mill Pond Center, Players’ Ring, Theatre of Newburyport and Seacoast Repertory Theatre.
In addition, Angelynne was a founding member of White Noise, an award-winning a cappella quartet, performing and recording a range of popular styles, appearing in concert with Sha Na Na, and Ronnie Milsap and singing on regional television and radio.
Angelynne studied vocal pedagogy and voice with Kathleen Wilson and has maintained a private studio in Portsmouth for the last eight years. Her teaching focuses on building a healthy, efficient technique through understanding voice physiology. She has also studied voice and coached with Jayne West, Kathleen Kaun, Phyllis Curtin and Richard Conrad. After attending the Wesley Balk Institute in St. Paul, MN, she has developed an interest in individual performance styles. She has worked with Gisela Rohmert of the Lichtenberg Institute in Germany, studying the effects of hearing and vocal tract lining tonus on vocal production. Her specialty is helping students understand the relationship between vocal style and healthy technique.
She has taught voice privately at several high schools in New Hampshire and Maine. She has been a faculty member of the UNH Summer Youth Music School and a guest lecturer on the history of musical theatre at UNH. She has created and implemented Listen to Her Sing, a voice/choral artist-in-residency program for at-risk teenage girls in Rochester and Hampton NH. She developed and continues to teach a series of intensive vocal workshops for York County Regional Fine Arts Program. In addition, she has been a regular adjudicator for the Southern Maine Choral Competition and a judge for the New Hampshire state-wide National Teachers of Singing competition. Angelynne has a law degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center and a B.A. in English and American Literature from Harvard University.
